Walter, please send me this "lousy" maple right away. It is way better than anything I have ever done or, at this point, hope to do. To my unsophisticated eyes, it is absolutely beautiful! I would promise to water it, fertilize, repot it when needed and otherwise take the best care of it anyone possibly could! Think of how it would feel in a home where it was really loved and appreciated!
I feel like a kid looking at a puppy that everybody else thinks is a real loser, but that I find adorable! I hate to say it, but I'm afraid your example is, for me, a dramatic counter-example. In the hands of a Walter Pall, pig's ears can, indeed, be turned into silk purses! In appreciation, Fred |

Thank you!
This really was a well presented article, and yes you got most of us going in the wrong direction. The true direction of your article is exactly why my boss and I grow our own stock, we at least know that the roots and nebari are good and going to end up with a good chance of being exelent. We allow the bonsai artest to have control of the top of the material that we grow. It is our entent to create an exelent foundation for the artest to work with.
