A Pinus sylvestris story

In the early 1990's this Pinus sylvestris was in training as a Hindu-pan topiary in Idaho.

In the mid 1990's, an accident with a growing tractor, knocked off the top of the tree.

In May, 2003 it was offered on ebay.

I was the winning bidder and took possession of the tree. It arrived in June 2003, but the pot was broken into many pieces and the tree was a bit worse for the shipping.

I immediately repotted and did an initial styling. It survived the June repot.

This tree has already had a share of unfortunate accidents but is now on a path toward a reasonable bonsai.

What was that Yogi? Wabi-Sabi all over again.

It's always nice to see material that was once the victim of an "accident" given a new lease on life.
Good luck with it Candy,

John

I've never been to Idaho. (My trees seem to be more traveled than I).

However, that gives me an idea....

Ok... if anyone sees a woman, driving madly in a tracktor... Pick up your bonsai.... and RUN!!

Alternatively.. if she ram raids a nursery.. follow behind her and then pick up some raw material... and RUN!!!

Accidents DO happen!

Hi Candy,
Darn nice looking 'start' you've got there. I must admit that the post below, my P.Strobus (the tree that "can't be made into bonsai" is the claim from many) had a serious bought with some line men triming trees on an easment at my property line about 5 yrs ago.

We had about a foot of snowand my bonsai were heavily covered. So much so that many were only 'stick's above the snow line. Well when I arrived home that eve I noticed the line of foot prints leading to my reserve.

Devastation in the spring. I wired the tree branch 'back on' and it finally healed over a period of a few years.

Now I think it adds a touch of 'design' to the compostition.
