Ohi'a lehua
I ground-layered this odd metrosideros polymorpha (Ohi'a lehua) 2 years ago on my hike back from working on more "serious" trees. I didn't know what I'd ever do with it except appreciate it's wild nature. It makes a complete loop. A few months ago I layered the top off and turned it upside-down into a cascade. Did I do the right thing?

O yes, you did the right thing! Looks nice and natural, nice pic to! I hope you don't mint, but i took off a bid off the crossing jin to open up the negative space. I think it looks just that more fluently that way. Good work,
Hans. |

Not only did you do the right thing you enhanced the tree with a good match of pot and stand.

Very nicely done. Are these trees tropical or temperate in nature? They look like great subjects to work on. andy

Very nice decision. I love the look of this material. It looks so much like manzinita from the mainland. That is also a very nice pot. I would love to see both the tree and the pot more close. I would love to see the bark detail, that species is just too good!

Thanks Al It doesn't seem much like manzanita to me but it was all over where I used to live (Glen Ellen) and I wonder if it could be ground-layered. Here's more of the old Japanese pot and the hanko. Levon doesn't know the maker. Bruce Last edited by Bruce Winter : 9-Jun-2006 at 06:37 PM. |
