Major Rock Planting Project
This week I am scouting for materials for a new Rock planting that will be my major project for these upcoming holidays. I have my eye on a very nice piece(s) of Ibigawa rock that is a nice deep shade that I feel would suit either pines or junipers. I have been looking around my local nursery and have chosen out several pieces ranging from about 30-50cm high. They all would be suited as they have nooks and cracks for roots and various plants, as well as flat sections for trees.
I have also picked out the Suiban tray I will use to house the design as well as a few plants as sort of accent plants that will give the design some more flair and character. All up I can see this costing me... You know what, I have no idea how much it will. The tree's will cost about $9.00 each (Australian), as they will be partly trained nursery stock. The accent plants no more than $5-$10 each, and I will have 2 or 3 of them. The rock... Imported Ibigawa, I forget, but it will probably cost the most. So my materials: 3 Junipers/Pines: $27 2 Accent plants: $10 (hopefully) 1 Rock - about 40cm in height: No idea Peat/clay mix: Under $10 Wire: Already have Moss: Can get any time from the creek Suiban Tray: Out of several that I have picked, they range. Well all up it should HOPEFULLY come in under about $100, but I can see the tray breaking my nads, but I have the day off school tomorrow, so I will go scouting and report back to you all then! Update yaz tomorrow. Drew.

Okay, I went to the nursery today and picked out the following:
3 Sargents Junipers, two mature $3 (one is 13cm tall, and the other 10cm). The other one is a mature on for $9 that from memory stands about 17cm tall. 3 different other plants for additional color, all three were $3 each. 1 piece of browny/orange rock, about 40-45cm long and about 15cm wide. $16.50 1 bag of pre-made muck (peat/clay) I have decided that if I come to exibit this baby, I will either use a flat wooden stand or buy a suiban tray (about $24). So all up, this thing is looking to come in at around about... Well lets add up! All up, just under $50. Yay! I've asked Ray to set aside all I need for me, and I will go grab it when I get paid next! So in the next week, I'll have a photo process thingy... Progression. I hope you guys like it, I'm certainly looking forward to it! Drew.

Please document with photos and post them, along with a description of the process, as you go about doing this project, for the benefit of those of us who have never tackled such a thing but want to!

I can't wait to do so. Will happen probably tomorrow or Sunday - depending on how my gorgeous girlfriend is, she has an awful cold.

Sorry I have been away for so long guys, I was unable to complete the project, and with a spate of terrible days of weather, and a lost tree as a result, I put away my trees and sulked for the bulk of winter. Today I bought a new juniper to go with the planting, and will be picking up my rock over the weekend. I will post the pictures once I get a new digital camera as my genuis sister wanted to see if it operated in water.
Once again, I am very sorry I have kept you all waiting, this should prove to be very interesting.
