Forest style

Al:

This is a wonderful planting and I can see that you have worked very hard to get a wonderful depiction of a forest. Congratulations on your artistry and success in completing this planting. I am sure it will be the star of any show that it is in. The public is very appreciative of this style however many in the bonsai community have expressed opinions that this style is less desirable.

I have a question, is forest style bonsai? It is a simple question but I don't have an answer.

that is one awesome forest setting. You must be stoked.

I would of said forest style is bonsai Gareth. There are more styles than single tree plantings. The word Bonsai while literally meaning 'potted tree' is used to describe the design of any of the styles. Whether that be a single tree or forest style its all bonsai

Al,
Wow, buddy, don't know how I missed this one. Nice work and great documenting on the repot/restyle. Can't wait to see the updating on this one in a few months. I like the placement, and the use of the tie down sticks. I'm particularly impressed with the budding inside, good to see our growing season has a bonus on it. Also, that pot is a great choice, and really nice looking.

Scott

As a novice, I know I am not qualified to give a credible critique. However, I find myself questioning the placement of the trees on the left side of this group.

The right side and the outline of the group as a whole give an impression of depth. Whereas the placement of trees, based on trunk size on the left side take away from this percieved depth.

Am I out in left field on this?

Beautiful forest. The back image is equally wonderful.

Glad this thread was brought out from last year. Fantastic forest, Al. Really inspiring. I would love to see how it has come out in the past year - any chance of a quick update pic?

I also thought about the left side, with the slightly larger trunk more to the back - but this is like one side of the forest where the older tree is more in line with those on the right, but has dropped seeds and the younger are now filling in the edge.

Well done I say. Yet another push toward me putting together a forest in the near future.

Not yet..... I've been pushing it around the back yard while the tree trimmers were busy tearing up the place. I have two broken sprinklers, but they didn't leave a mess which was a good thing.

As soon as I put all the yard stands back in place I will do a clean up on the forest and get some shots.

Cheers, Al
