TB,

Nice job on the nebari and picking a new front. The tree has definitely taken a step up.

Good Luck,

David

Hey - Mr Beard!

Good job on this elm mate. I remember the original posts of this tree and wondered what you were going to do with it - I think you've definitely made the right decisions here.

I'm really impressed with the 'feel' of this tree - very reminiscent of so many field trees in the UK - very naturalistic, I can almost see farmer Giles driving his tractor round it!

A shallower cream pot would really suit this later, but going for a deeper pot now will give those elm roots plenty of room to grow this season.

Regards,

Fish.

Thank you Mr Fish.

The naturalistic UK field tree look was what I was aiming for, although to be fair it nearly there when I bought it.

I see oaks in fields like this every day locally, It is really nice to have my own little miniature one right in my own back garden!

I can live with it in the current pot for a couple of years. Next spring I will do as Erubeck and Bnsaijim suggest and nick the roots and apply root hormone, to get roots nearer the surface.

Regards,

TB

1 YEAR UPDATE:

This tree has given me great pleasure this last year.

For the history of it, see the links in the first post of this thread.

Last May, I submitted it in the "Ask the Master" section here on bonsaiTALK. Walter Pall kindly critiqued the tree, and provided a virtual for a pot. Unfortunately the thread was lost in the bT crash. Luckily Walter still had a copy of the virtual he did for me.

Armed with a print out of his virtual I went shopping for a pot. Eventually I found the right pot, a little darker than Walter's suggestion but still very good I think.

Just to refresh, here is how the tree looked when I bought it, February last year:

This is how it looked in April last year:

And this is Walter's virtual...
