Matt, thank you for letting us look over your shoulder for this one. Also it is wonderful to be able to hear the thoughts that went into each step. Very often we are presented a tree and step by step pictures, but not the reason for each step. This is a wonderful learning tool......THANK YOU!!

Matt,
Excellent thread for this beginner!!! I really enjoyed reading this thread since I received a camellia for Christmas. (I posted for help when it was delivered on Christmas Eve and arrived almost frozen.) Mine is a baby tree with a thin trunk and has deep pink flowers with bright yellow centers. Could you post a current picture? I am sure there have been dramatic changes to it in the last 2 1/2 years. That was very well done. I have been doing bonsai for quite a few years and worked with camelias in the past and your presentation was just the best. Thanks.

Update
I'd really love an update on your camellia
I saved a 50+year throw away Camellia over Winter and brought it home - it's budding only now in about 7 places and i really would be interested to know the progress after your root prune |

First season recovery can be slow. However, it looks great now and has flower buds all over it. It may bloom early this year, so I'll probably photograph it sometime after the new year, if not before.
