ATM: Favourite Juniper

G'day,
This tree started as a very small cutting (Juniperis procumbens Nana) in 1992 and has been a source of enjoyment for me due to the fact that has been all my effort in developing it from scratch. What do you think?
regards brianbishop.

Hey, everybody besides Brian,

read the instructions! You are not supposed to say anything here at this time.

Brian,

your picture is not good for a critique. A tree should be photographed from the front. Or maybe you think that this is the better front. Then you should clearly say so.
Then the bonsai must be photographed so that the focus is about half way up the tree. You have taken a picture form above, which is very bad. The back rim of the pot should be just about visible.

Here is an example of a correct photograph. Mind you this is not about art. This is photgraphy craft. While a photographer in geral spends a lot of thought about the right angle this is not at all the case in taking pictures of bonsai. There is only one right angle. This is what the designer of the bonsai has worked on for quite a while. It is nto up to the photographer in general to question this. Even if the photographer is the same person as the one who has styled the tree. There is only one exeption to this: if the planting angle or position of a tree is not considered right as is.

Mind you, while a critique is mainly an artistic opinion this is about facts. And there is not a lot of margin to err here.
I wait for a better picture if you don't mind.

thank you

Walter,

Well I don't know how it happened, but I swear this tree was just in "Show & Tell" when I posted on it. I did NOT open it in ATM.

Believe it or not, I do follow instructions.

John

John,

that's strange. It certainly is in ATM now. I was wondering about all these posts.
In show and tell I would also not be so clear about my own instructions.
Well, I suppose it is in ATM and I will treat it like it is.
John and the others, never mind.

Walter,

I think some evil internet gremlin intervened!!! I noticed that once I posted, it did not initially show as a subscribed site for me. When i got back from lunch...viola... there it was. Strange. I swear... really.

Anyway, I will patiently await your critique

Happy Holidays,

John

Does everybody see the screen icon on the very lower left here? It says that there is a bulletin message somewhere. I am too stupid to find it.

Well I guess I will join the stupid ranks with you. I sure don't see it (not even sure I can spell it).

Ask the Master is actually a subforum in Show & Tell - it has always been this way.
Maybe we can add a different header / pic. It is not easy to do this, but it could be done with some time.

Regards,

Matt

Matt,

Please fix it. All this thinking is making my brain hurt

Season's Greetings,

John
