Cork Bark Chinese Elm

This tree was posted two years ago to the IBC. Walter you were kind enough to offer a quick suggestion, at the time I was unsure of the 'sling-shot' view of the tree. You gave a quick vert of it and offered positive thoughts.

It is now two years later, the tree has had a bad root rot and trunk rot problem, yup my fault since corrected. I have turned it around using the old back as the front. I would now appreciate your thoughts. Although this tree is at best 'just' within the guidlines of this Masters Critque section I do think it is and will be shown in the beginners group of my club come next spring.

I await your thoughts
Jay

Next was your (Walter) thought to the question of the 'sling shot' everyone else was saying take it off, I think you were just showing me another possibility.

Jay,

you are doing fine. Just continue.
The picture says it all.
Go for a naturalistic informal broom form. You can also call it oak form, apple tree form, normal tree form.

best regards
Walter Pall

Jay, I really like this tree - possibly more than anything I've got in my own garden! Wonderful job, and here I've got to agree that I very much like the naturalistic form.

From the pictures, I can't quite see what happened to the slingshot. Did you bend signficantly (trunk looks too thick for that!). Where'd the two branches go?

Best regards,
Carl

It appears the slingshot is still there, he just changed the angle of the front so that you now see it from the side.

Correct?
