I'm at work Thomas, I will check tonight. Forgive me, it is Shinji Suzuki I meant to refer to, I can think of 2 of his trees in particular, 1 in a recent issue of BT was a large Chinese Juniper with a strong first branch, another was from a twin trunk yamadori spruce which he styled in the literati style, very similar to this tree. It was the issue which had the Needle Juniper which won him the Presidents Prize on the cover. I'll dig out the numbers for you tonight. The latter in particular perfectly illustates the path for your tree IMHO

here is a quick paintgraphic of what I mean Thomas.
Option 1 has the tree brought to a more upright position, allowing a steep angle for the character branch on the right. Option 2 though has more to it for me style-wise. Introducing the slant gives a more dynamic trunk line, kept in balance by the change in angle of the character branch on the right, this si counter balanced with the left branch. The canopy consequently forms an assymetrical triangle I guess if we talk geometry. Which would you opt for? Whichever, I personally think the character branch is crucial to define the tree and removing it would spoil the design. Regards, Mark |

Hi Mark,
Thanks again for taking the time to do some virtual work on this tree. I would have to say that drawing #2 would be more appealing to me for the same reasons you stated. I will have to dig around inside of the tree to see what my options are, if it's possible to do something like this. Thomas J.
