OMC, that larch forest is very nice. That has sure put on some weight from last year.
This show is so much nicer then last year. The trees are displayed so much better, and they are a joy to look at. Keep up the great work. Bonsai-al

Thanks, Al!
The show, and the high standard that you set, pushed me to go out and get a decent backdrop. Still some work to do before I get everything figured out completely, but I'm already getting better shots than I was last year. The forest is just leafing out now - I'll post a shot in a few weeks. What do you think about taking the tallest tree down a bit in height and building a new apex out of that front bud, i.e., cutting it off at the red line so that the basic shape is the pair of triangles shown? Any other suggestions? Also, I still haven't done any extensive wiring on that forest. As you may remember, I just put together last year and I need to watch its growth pattern for one more season before I have a good feeling for where it wants to go. -Carl

I don't know... I think it has some rugged qualities that make it work the way it is. I'll PM you with some ideas that I got as criticism at our club show. I still have some photo's to post of that.. Stay tuned..

Thanks Al,
I appreciate the comments. I haven't posted this before because I just styled it about a week ago and repotted it into that Tokoname pot the day of the storm. Man I would be one mad puppy if that pot would've broke. I plan on putting it in our Dallas club show this weekend. If I ever decide to sell it, you've got first dibbs.

Suggestion only....
I have a polite favor to ask of you all when commenting. Could you include a link to the tree and or category that you are commenting about. I am lazy and dont want to look thru all the contest categories to find them.....
Thanks Paul

Treebeard,
The presentation for that saxifrage accent plant is absolutely stunning. I really like the contemporary stand, the touch of brushed steel, and especially that lovely grey background. The accent plant is also a gem. I'd be interested to hear others' comments on this not-so-traditional form of display. (Andy...?) Cheers, Carl (Sorry, Paul, I don't know how to link to individual posts within threads.)

I know what ya mean Carl.
I am thinking ahead, its not so bad now. But I think when the show really fills up with several artists names in several different categories, perhaps a link to the thread and a post # would be sufficient, or just name the thread and post # that would be easy enough to find. And is there an end to this show? Or does it go on til everyone stops posting.....my stuff was just brought out this weekend, all with minimal bud swell if any (still around freezing at nite). So I was hoping to get in my stuff near Mid May or so (with foliage at least)....just wunnerin Paul

Thanks OMC. I must admit it exceeded my expectations.

Al, I really like your Columbine accent planting! I have some seeds so maybe I should try this myself. Did you grow yours from seed or from stock?
