Here you go. As promised the headers are out there, lets fill them up. I'm anxious to see what we can do.

Please place comments about the trees here. That way we don't schlock up the other thread with tons of comments. We can start as many of these as we need to. I'll bet we start a few...

Have fun, put your artistic hat on, Dandy Rootage is hoping to find some good stuff here, let's not let him down...Bonsai-al

Al,

I really like your accent plants and other accent objects. They add a great deal to the displays. I particularly like the accent plant alongside the 9" maple forest.

I'm a bit troubled by the formal upright (chokkan) trident display, though. You've got a "distant mountain stone" as the accent object, but you've placed it in the foreground and slightly above the tree. I find this to be visually troubling.

Similarly, you've placed your black mondo accent plant (with the informal upright trident) somewhat above the base of the tree itself, so that it sits at roughly the midline of the tree and again creates visual dissonance. Why not drop it to a bamboo mat or trunk slice?

Comments?

-Carl

You make good points there. I had a similar problem on the IBC when I posted there. I had put the hoop stand and an accent piece together and the accent went over the hoop part, visualy ruining the round hoop. Problem was that my table setup is too small, and I have to crowd things together.

In the future, I plan on taking pics of shohin trees on stands, but by themselves. This way I get a good closeup photo of the tree without the distracting accent piece. I have some low matts and things, and will try them too. A lot of stuff is packed up for the trip out to the FBS show tomarrow, ie. stands, matts. I just posted some pics I already had, since the thread was still bare after two days.

I will shoot some new photos after the show with my new table and exchange out the photo's. Thanks for the comments though, you always keep me honest, I like that.

BTW, Where's all the photo's?

Hi Al,

Thanks for the good-natured answer. I appreciate your willingness to consider folks' suggestions.

I'll post some pictures pretty soon, but I don't really have anything yet. Most of my trees are only beginning to leaf out here in Seattle. That, and the show convinced me to do something I've meant to do for a long time, namely, go out and get a photek black backdrop to replace those tacky blue posterboard backgrounds that I have been using.

Best regards,
OMC

Some very nice trees there Al. And of course the display is extraordinary as usual from you.

Can you add a kabaduchi (clump style) header? I've a fairly nice quince I'd like to photograph next week when some more blooms are open. Thanks in advance.

Apologies for lack of stand, maybe I should pay Al to make me one.

Good luck with that, Fish! I've been trying to commission Al to make a stand for about a year now, but it seems that he's too busy doing things like organizing contests, shohin shows, and giving away his stands here.

Good on ya, Al.

Cheers,
OMC

£££$$$...?

OMC,

Maybe you just have to offer to pay him more...?

Fish.

Hey Fish, stand or no stand, that larch stands on its own. Good work!
