bonsaiTALK Hint: Did you know you can double click any bonsai term on this page for its definition?

Show This Year Anyone?

I was thinking that the spring bug has bitten pretty hard and maybe we could do a BonsaiTalk Spring Show again this year.

I'm sure all the trees have improved since last year, and there are so many talanted new folks here that we need to see your trees displayed nicely.

Maybe this year we could open a couple of catagory's like:
*Conifer
*Diciduous
*Flowering

or maybe:
* Formal
* Informal
* Group
* Cascade

or maybe:
* Large 20" to 40"
* Medium 16" to 20"
* Small 10" to 16"
* Shohin, Mame 10" and under

Or how about:
* Over 20 years in training
* 10 to 20 years in training
* 5 to 10 years in training
* 1 to 5 years in training
* recently bought, first styling

To see last years show go here:BonsaiTalk Spring Show

Tell me what you guys and gals think on this one! Bonsai-al

That would be fun. Maybe we could just post our trees and put all that other info down?

LivingArt, we did that last year, and the post gets so long that it takes forever to look at. With some catagorys to break it up it shouldn't get so long and will make viewing more enjoyable.

Al,

I think the idea of a spring bonsai show is great. I think we should list tree's by the style of the tree. There should be one thread for each style. Everyone who posts make sure to post the right tree in the right thread. Just my idea.....

Al, I like the idea of showing the trees by years in training. I think you might adjust the categories a little.

1- recently styled- first year
2- two to three years in training
3- four to six years
4- seven to ten years
5- over ten years in training

My reasoning is that a high percentage of the membership of this Forum are relatively new to Bonsai. By having three groups of younger, or at least styled for under 6 years, trees we would have a good look into the progression.

I would also like to see each tree listed with a short (very short) information list.

This sounds great - so long as the categories are by tree type or size, NOT by years in training. Years in training has nothing at all to do with beauty or excellence. The only relevant quantifiers are species, size and, sometimes, style (although only bunjin style makes sense to seperate from the rest).

If the show is to be a judged show, only quality and beauty counts. If it is to be just an exhibition, categories are irrelevant - just show the trees and enjoy them. Either way, I'm looking forward to it.

Kind regards,
