Vance,

"But I do understand and it's a shame some of you are still wallowing in that old mud pit, this helps no one, not you, not me, not bonsai, and even more so it does not hurt He who shall not be named."

Unfortunately, the aformentioned yet un named "he"(notice the small "h") has left a perceived trail of lies, subterfuge, self agrrandizement and self promotion which legitimately leads to some mistrust of any endeavor with which he is associated...even when it is a worthy endeavor.Sad but true.

A couple of other things you might take into account are the mistatements and sequence of this promotion.I would have thought that the ones involved with this endeavor would have posted an announcement on AOB's front page before promoting it on other sites. If it was done,I missed it.Also, from a posting on another site by Will. ..Bonsai Today was involved from the very beginning....(oops,that statement has been edited out ).That's not a big deal except that it was conveniently left out of the first "announcement" here....and later denied.(and now editted)I'm sure it was just a mistake on Will's part. There is no way that man would lie.

I personally don't share the dismay at this contest,or its promotion on bT.But I am not surprised by it,nor do I fault those who are.

You are welcome to discuss by all means, but I would not like to see this thread fall into a "slanging match" for something we have no control over.

Here is a DIRECT LINK............... click

Regards,
Ian.

A very good thought Ian.
Time to "lock" this one out.
We can start our OWN fights here at BT and this one is already getting nasty.

Even if Walter asks me to participate, I wouldn't. I have no more objections than the one I have already posted. I just stated my personal opinion. If one wants to enter this competition, by all means be my guest. Everybody has a choice to do so. I won't judge them because of it. Who am I to judge somebody else? I just expressed my concerns about the deeper motivation of organising such a contest because of my personal beliefs about what bonsai is meant to be. No more, no less.

Yes, it would be best as Ian says, to take the discussion over to AoB. While the post about the contest, and the links, are all acceptable over here, it is their contest and they should be in touch with the replies/concerns/questions.

Contests are a heck of a lot of work, for very little reward. Usually the bickering, back-stabbing, and attempted rule-bending go far towards negating the fun and the final appreciation of the contest. I've been surprised and dismayed in the past (having been the moderator/contest coordinator in the past for several contests) how difficult it can be to keep everything in the proper spirit. Some people just can't play nice.

Sorry if this is an unusually negative post, but I've seen both sides and have come out of a few of the contests with the distinct feeling that it wasn't really worth the trouble. So either support the contest in the proper spirit, or ignore it. With all of the inherent problems holding one of these contests, eventually the negatives will cause people to stop holding them at all, and then no one wins. Isn't it better to have these contests available, and have a choice in participating?

Joanie

With all do respect Carmi, no one asked for an opinion. This was an informational post and was not really the place to start a discussion. People are lazy and do not go where the contest is and discuss there where the proper thread is available. What should have happened here is that the people from AofB should have inserted it into the calendar of events where it belonged. Now it is here and we have started WWIII and feelings are hurt and those that will enter still will, and those that have no trees worthy of this kind of event will continue to watch. So why all the fuss.

A couple of minor points here.

1. As you yourself has pointed out on many occasions posting to this (or any forum) might bring up comments on the postings. One may or may not like those comments but then that is the nature of a DISCUSSION forum. You post and people respond.

2. No real WW3 here. Differing opinions Yes. Questions asked. Yes.

Most of my questions were answered. And answered in a civil manner. Actually I received some answers that have made me do some thinking about the contest. Could be it ain’t such a bad thing. Still need some convincing that is a worthwhile endeavor but I am open to discussion on that

But by posting to a public forum one must know that there will be comments made. Not all people will like your posting. Some will tell you so. Others will just bite the bullet and keep their mouth shut.

Big thing is that if you post expect a response. You don’t have to agree, you can get mad, you can argue your point of view. But you can’t just expect no response.
You just have to deal with that possibility.
No response means that nobody gave a hoot about what was posted.

And I thought that WW3 will be with Iran…

For a couple of years for personal reason I could not participate in this forum.

I do believe that people should express their opinion.

In the future, if at all, I will limit my self to uploading photos of my trees.

There are also limitation of understanding and expressing yourself in a foreign language.

Thank you all

No I think I understood your opinion very well. It was rude and out of line even as an opinion. I find it interesting that you even used boldface type to highlight your rudeness and vulgarity. Thanks you so much from our peacefull friends from across the world.

Next contest will be Japan against the rest of the world, and then China against Japan, and so on…
Are we Bonsai artist or bull fighters?
