G'day Torbjorn, Short answer is permanently outside, I'm four floors up and because of the surrounding architecture I am lucky to have a micro climate, never no frost:-) Attached is a pic of my smallest one, a Japanese import as I recieved it, of course it's in full leaf now but I just can't get to it at the moment to make a pic but will do as soon as possible, and post it for you. It's 13cm high from pot rim. I plan to do some cuttings very soon, say about two indoors and two outside, any advice really welcome. Best regards, Nigel

Hi Nigel,
Nice little tree you got there! I was a little surprised that you grow them outdoors year round. I got mine from Indonesia as a P microphylla (thats why im growing indoors), but, what is yours? If you have (?) propagated other species with success, i doubt that the Premna will fail for you. You could even do them the easy way, putting them in a glas of water. I do them with rooting hormone and bonsai soil or perlite with almost 100% success. So, either way, you will earn some new stock. ![]() |

G'day Torbjorn, Thanks for your advice I shall be following up with it as soon as possible, and indeed I shall be trying both ways, in the meantime here are two pics of my Premna Japonica in full leaf, just taken now. The slightest brush with these trees or pruning for that matter, fills the air about with the wonderful musk aroma, which I truly love, tho' I hear that there are some folks that cannot stand it. Pics especially for you mate, so hope ya likes. Nigel

Lovely!
Thanks for making the pics for me, love it! So, you got a P japonica, and i have to say that i love those leaves! But, becouse you own a different ssp. im not sure that yours is as easy to propagate as my microphylla. But hopefully it is! If your cuttings makes it, would you like to trade for one of mine? ![]() |

Yep sure would, and if mine doesn't, whaddya think of a Ginkgo variegata, I've got two trees arriving from England some time this week, and Ginkgo cuttings work dead easy, just a thought.
