Does anyone else see the little old man with the moustache in the first picture?

Yurup, your comment makes me think you are not pleased with the result. Is that true? I think the fact that they have so much character so early in their developement will only make then that much nicer as they grow and mature. So many trees I see look like manacured movie stars.

Its hard to say from a photo but currently I'm not to fond of them. Maybe I just like the manicured look to much. Not sure. Maybe things will smooth out a bit more or maybe its just because of the photograph. I'm still interested in seeing the trees when "ready" though.

Very good work

This is very good and patient work, Al.
This is the method to develop good Shohin trunks on decidious trees. I look forward to see the development of your trees in future.

One can also create deadwood of the cut instead of healing over the wound, depending on the specimen and the wanted design.

2005 Prunus

2006 Prunus

Idaho, I think he is showing that instead of just putting cut paste on and letting it heal and grow, you can make it very convincing as dead wood carved out, to help add character to the trunk.

Morten, thanks for your input, it's good to see people of yours Colin Lewis, Walter Pall and others reputation joining in here more lately. It helps us all to see more input likre yours.

Thanks
Bill

The picture shows where the trunk was cut. Later new branches was created through back budding.
In stead of healing the scar I wanted to add deadwood at the trunk.
If I wanted to heal the scar, I should have made the cut at the backside, leaving one or more sacrifice branches helping the scar to heal over.
The sacrifice branches are later cut off or shortened when their purpose has been fore filled.

I waited until new branches was showing through back budding before i carved the trunk, in order not to destroy future branch possibilities.

Thanks Morten. Oh, I get it. My question, although not presented well, was in relation to the first image, the one with the arrow. I thought the dashed line was a stick or something attached to the top of the cut. I see now that it is also an edited line, just like the arrow! oops....
