SHOHIN TRIDENT MAPLE
This is a trident maple that I am working on. It is 10 inches in height now. I may cut it down another two inches this spring. The trunk is two an a half inches across. the lower branches are rather thick and I would like to remake them. I will wait till Jim Gremmel does a workshop in Fresno this year or next.

Re: SHOHIN TRIDENT MAPLE
Hi Al,
If you can stand letting the tree become a bit unkempt, you might consider growing out some whips to use for thread grafts to replace the oversize branching. Holes can be drilled thru the trunk wherever new branching should appear and the whips can be threaded back through them to appear as branches on the opposite side. Wait a few months and you will have precisely placed branches! ![]()
