Shohin Ficus.

I've had this ficus for about 2 years now training and finally took some pictures for your input/feedback. I feel like it is a little unnatural looking and would love your comments and suggestions. The pot is just a training pot as I would like a nice glazed pot for it eventually but this was all I had on hand when I potted it. 1st pic is the front, 2nd is the left, 3rd is the back & 4th is the right.

Kind Regards,

Jay

You need to start cutting back the branches to get ramification, you have a trunk and some main branches with leaves only, thats why (IMO) it looks unnatural.

like said before cut back and also try leaf reduction techniques to balance it out. i think it will make a real cute little shohin.

Bill, and Dankone, thanks for the comments. How far would you cut back the branches?

To the oldest set of leaves. Also watch your wire it looks a bit tight and could cut in with a grow spurt in spring.

I'm guessing cutting. I got it at a bonsai nursery in Bloomington Indiana on a visit to see friends. I don't remember the name of the nursery but it had a bunch of nice stock. We just had our first daughter so i have to watch my spending or i would have brought a lot more home...
