Shohin chamaecyparis

I bought this little chamaecyparis obtusa 'nana' today for 5 € (less than $5),
potted it into that dark brown hand-made pot and wired it just a bit.
It is about 10 cm (4 inch) tall from the edge of the pot.

What do you think about it?

Re: Shohin chamaecyparis

Hello

It looks ok, but I think the pot is too big for the size of the tree so you might want to get a shallower pot.

I also don't think very highly of the far right section of the tree, the folliage looks a bit square, but otherwise the tree is pretty good.

Thanks for the comments. I know the pot is too large, but it is first bonsai pot. I'm going to reduce the rootball gradually in each future repot.

Here's a newer pic of the tree.

Not too much paid for a bonsai.

How is your aquarium wood doing?
Is it weatherproof? I remember the pic from about the first thread I ever posted.

Re: Shohin chamaecyparis

I've not noticed any rotting yet. So far so good I guess.. . The chamaecyparis is growing just fine on it's "mountain" so it must be feeling ok. It dries out real quick so adequate watering is vital. I've planted some moss on top to keep the soil from washing away and to keep it moist. This helps and looks cool too.. What design do you have in mind for your shohin ?

Don't really know yet. I'm going to keep it as is for a while. Maybe I'll come up with a great idea later :-) .
