Jay, pretty much the same if you wire before planting. After planting you then work in a closed loop. Aluminum wire only here, copper would get too kinked up.

Robert, I asked at the nursery, they keep these in stock year round with no protection. They said the summers are harder on them than the winters. I have kept regular gardenias here with no problem. Time will tell. I'll check back when its spring and see where we stand.

Wow! That was some great detail. I just got a gardenia myself and I'm not sure whether to keep it outside or in. I live in Flagstaff, AZ (Zone 5). It gets pretty cool here at night- into the 30s F. What do you think?

Cool is not too much of a problem. They do like to be kept moist and I let this one get away from me for one day and it folded up. The roots just burned right off.

Great demo Al, and a very cool style for that gardenia. That was honestly as informative as any article I have read.

Out of curiousity, why did'nt you cover the roots on the bottom right with moss?

Al,

Great work, Al. You are a natural bonsai artist. How's the head? How many magnets, nails, paperclips, etc did you bring home today?

Gary
