My Little Bonsai, Short And Stout.

Howdy folks. I'm very new to this whole thing and I'd like to thank you all for all of the wonderful trees and information you've all shared here.

I wanted to do a little sharing myself, and thought this little one might be a good place to start. This is a kalanchoe, a succulent, I'm not sure of the exact species and cultivar. This was an accidental bonsai. After extensive pruning and repotting of a large kalanchoe I was left with a few stubs of root, so I shoved this into a pint pot and said "I wonder what this will do."

This is what it did:

Putting it all in perspective

This is only my third bonsai, but I think I may do more work at this scale. A little growth goes a long way when you're this tall!

Currently this plant is in the saucer of the little pint container it was growing in. If anyone could point me in the direction of a good source of very very small bonsai pots I'd appreciate it.

This particular plant seems to be prone to aerial rooting, as one of the larger portions that resulted from the pruning and repotting I mentioned is also sending out roots above its main trunk, which looks dead. I can post some pics of that plant if desired.

Anyway, this may help provide a little scale for this puppy:

I'm not familliar with that species, but I have to wonder if a succulant and moss are a good combination? I would think one or the other will perish with the vastly different watering requirements.

I did the moss for the photograph only. This little guy has since gone back into its original pot to continue developing the nebari.
