Mini exposed root Juniper

G’day Taipan and all,

Here is the 1st posting of one of my smallest guys.

A small, Dutch yamadori, exposed-root, Juniperus communis in a Tokoname pot.
Height of the tree is 9cm [3 ½”] from the pot rim.

Nice Mame

It is a nice Mame-bonsai (It is categorized as a Mame when it is below 10 cm in height).
It can be developed to fine Neagari, root-exposed, tree in a relative short time. I might consider changing the pot to a brown or blue container that suits the green colours of the needles better. The bright white pot attracts the eye a little to much. The white pot can be used for a flower or fruit bearing specimen very well.
The Neagari style is a very elegant style I think; and it allows us to use thinner trunks than else seems appropriate, especially in the Mame size.

Kind regards
Morten Albek

G'day Albek,

Of course you're right about the pot, but it was at the time the only one I had, sizewise, if my Cotoneaster microphyllus survives thru the coming winter then it shall go into the white pot in spring, and I shall have to dig deep and find something else for the Juniper.

My small balcony is so over crowded, and I have quite a few small ones on the go, but because of the overcrowding I am forced to put some of my trees into larger or even taller pots, so that they may squeeze in and overhang.

Thank you for your comments.

Nigel

Thumbs up

Hi Nigel, Fantastic little tree....I love the exposed roots....Gives me an idea of what to do with some Chinese Juniper cuttings I have coming up soon!

Mmm yes I can see a few exposed root Mame trees in the bunch already...

Thanks for posting the pics mate!

Happy Growing
Tai
