Micro elm forest...

The pot cost 50cents (euro) and had no holes - so I drilled some. And then I need something to do with it. It'll look a bit better when these elms get some leaves.

The close up shows how they look...

This is common elm, btw, not chinese. Chinese would be cheating.

HiŽ Jerry
Using Chinese Elm will not be cheating. Instead it will increase the ability to create a small forest with the right size of leaves. It is important to choose the right specimens, who are able to fore fill the needed requirements.

Good luck with the little forest.

Kind regards

Morten

I Know, but I had my eyes on the clock when I wrote it - since it was already April 1st. This is NOT an April 1st joke, by the way (although it did have some potential thinking about it) :-)

You are absolutely right, Chinese Elm would be a far better choice but all my Chinese Elm were too big...

Sorry Nic, missed this.

Chinese Elm naturally have much smaller leaves - therefore they are actually much more appropriate (easier) for use in a mame-esque planting like this. Where's the "challenge"? - I say. These are Common Elm (may even be Whitch Elm). They are from Holland, so they could even be Dutch Elm.

Joanie - I had collected more than 200 elm seedlings 2 years ago - for some reason all the local elm trees produced literally millions of seeds that year. The very smallest ones I kept in a shallow training pot and trunk chopped anythime they grew over 5cm (2 inch) in height. These 5 were lost causes - so I had a little play.

Great little planting, well done. Looking forward to seeing it in leaf.
