mame or accent?
Hey all,
Just wanted to drop a few pictures to you of one of my little gems. It's an Erodium (which is basically a wild flower/weed). The first shot is of the way it is today. Second is the pot I'm thinking about putting it in (I think it's size is a little better). Third is a bit of detail in the canopy and fourth is the new proposed pot infront, just to give me an idea of what it will look like. Please feel free to comment or give me ideas for a better pot. Kind Regards, ~Jay |

I like the color on the original pot a little better. Very nice bonsai.

Onlyrey thanks for the feedback. I like the original pot color as well but this was the only pot i had onhand that I felt was the right size. I'm curious if anyone can give me a good virtual of a glazed pot for it... I'd be interested how that would look.

It just my opinion, but I think it would look better in a more shallow pot.

I am just curious about something. Why do you refer to this plant as a bonsai? I was always under the impression that the following is the definition for a bonsai: Literal translation of the Japanese word bonsai is "tree in a tray". • A tree grown into a miniature size, and planted in a shallow bonsai pot which was designed for the purpose of displaying finished bonsai. ... and as the OP has said this is a "flower/weed" and doesn't really look like a tree evenly vaguely. Just curious. |

Yep, have to agree with Sohei, pots are way too big, shallow pot or slab would interesting, or better still what about growing it on a rock. It is of course not a bonsai [Deb is quite right], but rather an interesting little 'accent', and nice work too. Have a great one.... Nigel

Deb,
I guess you're right... Just curious about people's thoughts on it. Thanks for the input though. I kind of felt that it did look a bit like a tree, but that is also why I included the "accent" in the title. I would like to pot it into something a little shallower once i can find one. Again thanks to all for the feedback. Kind Regards, Jay |

I don't know if Deb is right. Chrysanthemum "bonsai" are only flowerinf herbaceous perennials in pots, but they are a class of bonsai in Japan.
http://www.rep-am.com/articles/2007...tyle/290860.txt It would seem that if the plant develops a woody stem and isn't an annual, it might qualify as bonsai" material... |

Hmmmmm...I thought that the literal was "a plant in a pot"? Guess we could discuss this for..... Pat
