Long Time No Post..ficus Question

hehe, t'has been almost 6 months sence i have poasted here been EXTREAMLY busey with a huge school load, PLUS just started working in august.. BUT I HAVENT FORGOT ABOUT YA!! ok. i got a small ficus, bout 5 inches tall.. trunk base about an inch wide.. and tapers dramaticly toward the top.. at tyhe base there is a big.. "root?" coming out bout the size of my middle finget sticking straight out, and ending as a nub.. how could i go about cutting it off without leaving a big scar, and without hurting the tree.. a club member suggester elmers glue.. but that seems funny to me (although she is very knowlegible) any suggestions? it is a cute tree, and think within 3 years or so, it will even make a fine show tree

Ficus heal over quickly, so it shouldn't be a big deal to cut it off. Cut paste will work if you have any. If not, then elmers glue is almost as good.

You know, it probably depends on how fast the tree grows, which depends on your growing conditions and climate. I find that Ficus benjamina really don't heal very rapidly in our mediterranean climate (hot, dry summers). I am sure the story is VERY different in the tropical climates. Also they are prone to dieback from pruning wounds, so I stub mine off, let it die back some and then make a clean cut.

Regards,

Matt

well.. im in zone 7 we have mildly cold winters. so it is inside. it seems to be growing quickly, i cliped it, and within 2 days it has small leaves poping out of the tips.. but i just put in a little bigger pot.. i didnt do any root prune, just moved the whole root ball, and packed around it. the root ball is quite large, with i think i want to keep it bigger than would be astheticly pleasing, just because i dont want to have to water it every day or so..
