Do you mist with a spray bottle to keep moist or just water frequently? Thanks for answering my newbie questions.

Misting would be great if you have the time to devote. I didn't so shade and frequent watering would be the ticket.

How often should I mist? (It's very dry where I live). Sorry to ask such beginner questions here, but noone will answer me in the beginner forum. Thanks!

I'll answer since no-one else seemed to. Of course, there is no simple answer. Is your questions about general care and the use of misting, or are you specifically talking about misting after a re-potting like Al just did? In case #1 - and if it's hot and dry most of the time, then I would personally mist 2 or more times per day. In case #2 - At least twice per day. I would, personally, keep my newly potted bonsai in a greenhouse or cold-frame to ensure high humidity and prevent drying out. Of course, with your extreme temperature ranges and (I'm gusssing) very low humidy levels, misting the trees might seem like a never ending job. Something automatic might be necessary. Sorry, I missed your post in the Beginner forum where you asked how frequently you should mist. I think it's probably a waste of time, unless you have it automated and it goes off 10-20 times a day. Some trees with waxy leaves will see no real benefit before it evaporates. Mist in the evening can work better, because it's cooler and hangs around longer, but you run the risk of fungal infection if it stays moist too long. Regards, Matt

Aimee, if you don't have the time to mist 20x a day or don't have the money to buy an automated mister but still want those banyan roots or something, i would look into a humidity tray. Also a nice little greenhouse would be nice too but i'm not too sure how expensive they can be. You can find info about humidity trays here and on plenty of other websites. I'm sure they sell them on Treebay.com too
