Although the drama in the first post goes beyond my involvement with with this forum (way beyond), this has been an EXCELLENT thread!

I really enjoy this tree how it is, and enjoyed watching this tree progress over the years! I'm such a newb at this and I'm looking forward to my own developments, I digress...

Can someone please explain the teacup thing to me? I am lost as to what that is...

After stripping off the bark and living tissue, the bare wood is left to dry. Most then use a dremel tool to sand it down.

Hodge, the bark on certain conifers like juniper and yew will sometimes be quite thick and flaky. Some folks will remove the exfoliating layer(s) of bark all the way down to the very smooth cinnamon colored bark. You don't actually sand the bark down but remove the flakes manually, and you have to be careful not to damage the thin layer of red bark that remains.

Dave
ps El gringo was describing how to create deadwood features like shari and jin.
