Grafted Shimpaku

I aquired this plant during my down time after back surgery in 1999. I had seen it at the nursery and asked about it. I was told that it had been brought in by Ripsgreentree and that it was grafted. I suppose it is kishu on top. Rip?

I let the tree grow for the past 4 years and had decided to start to do something with the little fluff ball.

I was going to show how I choose the branches and a step by step, but the darn thing is just too small. At this time the tree is about 6" tall.

Low and behold there was a trunk and branches it there. This is after about 2 hours work.

The tree finished out at about 4" tall, the trunk is about 1/2 " thick.

Al, the shohin demon

You can have a backslap for that one , it has the makings of a very fine bonsai.

I too have been pruning and wiring shohin this weekend, pix later in the week..

Regards,

TB

Nice work AL. I have spent the week pruning and potting a bunch of 1 gal. J. procumbens 'Nana' nursery stock. Some of them turned out ok. The corallary, of course, is that some didn't.

Good job Al

Al has had for a couple of years an open invitation to come out to the property and play.
He has been out to the property one time and has never come back.
