Ficus potential, Sugestions welcomed

I have a fence of ficus in my garden and I've noticed a small ficus tree growing out of the roots of a bigger one.

The small one is about 10cm high and has a trunk of about 3 cm and I am thinking of turning it into a Bonsai.

How should I proceed ?
Do i leave it in the ground right now or it will be harder to remove it afterwards?
Should I digg to remove it or I will end up hurting the roots of the bigger one?
In the latter case how can I remove it?

thanks

i would try to separate it from the parent plant but leave it in place if you are worried about it surviving. but most likely you can dig it up and move it, pot it whatever you'd like to do.

Ficus root so extremely well from cuttings that you could easily make a tree from a cutting this size or even much larger. Air layering is another technique but once again, no reason to go to that much trouble with a ficus.

Look through the hedge for less interesting material of similar size and give cuttings a go. If you find it easy, then cut the one you want.

If it's at ground level you could attempt a "ground layer". Search for this technique.
