Cotoneaster-suggestions

Just picked up this cotoneaster at my local bonsai nursery. I am looking at this as the proposed front:

I think it depends on the target size of your tree. Personally, a trunk with low movement like this suggests that it should continue in the same vein, so I would probably make a couple of chops and reform the apex. in the blue direction. You should get plenty of sprouts from each cut.

Regards,

Matt

Matt,
Thanks for the suggestion. Your thought lends towards a Shohin tree and that is my direction for this tree. I am reluctant to make such vigorous cuts at this time in the year (just about to enter the rainy season). Would it be more appropriate for the Spring?

Thanks
Craig

Yes, early spring would be a good time. Since cotoneaster is a shrub, any time during the growing season should be okay if you have some growing time left. So, I'd agree that now might not be the best time!

Regards,

Matt

Try this, be a bit drastic and see the shape unfold.
Kinda like an acacia!
