Hi Zen,

Thanks for your help, since this thread was created I have just broke down and bought a new camera.Kinda sucks since the one I was using is only a few months old, when I had purchased it I didn't know how to shop for a camera and overlooked things like optical focus. But it's all worked out now and I can take nice pictures of mame sized trees. Thanks again.

I like the second picture much better after the wiring. Before the wiring, the tree looked like a miniature topiary, but pulling those branches down made it much better.

Hi,

You can see with this one here in the link what I am doing with basic garden trees is starting with the root work and also giving them a quick clipping. As they are already set up for broom types from there I will keep using mostly guy wires to pull the branches down lower and lower. Then I can keep clipping back to get the deired shape of the crown, while new foliage and little twigs grow in.I can then wire movement along the branch lines that have been pulled down. Will be counting on magic or something for a good root spread to develope sometime aswell. To bad I can never find a nest of 50 year old elms to try this with.

Hey RedPine, not to turn this into a photography thread, but how do you set your lights up? The image seems a little dark, yet a bulb or something has burned out the detail on your accent plant's pot.

Hi,

Well with the new camera I am not using any light other than what leaks thru the window and what little the basic overhead 60 watt bulb sends out. Before I was using 2 60 watt Reveals,a full blown halogen flood light and then a low powered flood light.Would just put them in lamps an point at the tree, glad those days are gone as etting up an outdoor studio isn't happening unless I move again.

Ah, well, sorry to derail. I was just looking at the accent pot because I'm getting kind of interested in kusamono. What is that accent plant anyway?

Thanks for sharing the pics!
