Don't worry Scott, the moss will "go away" soon enough. Spring is the time that everyone can have moss for a few months

Al,
This shohin Forsythia isn't mine, but , the pot is. It was in the display at MidAtlantic show last April as an accompanyment plant.
I had a big old forsythia I collected andsold several years ago. I've been looking for the pic but cannot find it!

OK Al, I managed to find this single photo of an old Forsythia so I scanned it. Sorry about quality.
I hesitated to post it since it was the ONLY pic I had, no later pics.
I collected this tree about ten years ago. I have a Chinese landscaper friend who calls me when he is going to pull stuff out that he thinks I might want. Sometimes it works out. Plus, he doesn't have to dig them out!
This was in a guys yard. There were two, each about 30 yrs old! according to the homeowner.
They were both pretty big single trunks. I dug them both and both were full of termite damage. Naturally the biggest , neatest ,hollow one died immediately!
This one did pretty well and this pic was about a year after collecting and I managed to get it into a pot and get some refinement done on the rooted wood with my handy Makita
I sold the tree a few years after this and might have given other pictures of it away with the tree. At any rate, this was all I could find.
One of the probs I found with larger collected ones are, you really need to start all over with a stump because it is impossible to wire larger branches, plus, you need to keep the ends of cut larger stubs sealed so they don't let water down inside the holes to rot them.
Regards,
Dale

BTW Al,
When I was in Japan they had some FANTASTIC little shohin Forsythia with short stubby trunks. They were $30!! in little B&B's
I bought one and talked John Quinn into buying one!
I bare rooted it in the hotel bath tub and wrapped in sphagnum with my other trees. It died off slowly piece by piece the next spring.
But, I think Johns did well.
John??

Hi Dale...I have two forsythias I bought in Japan, one in 2001, and one in 2004. The one I bought with you in 2004 is a much better tree, and is pictured here in March 2006. It has not started to bloom this year as I took special precautions with my most of my deciduous stuff this year to prevent early blooming/budding. I'll post an update when it blooms this year.
