Question Willow Leaf Ficus

Hey All,

I have a willow leaf ficus and was wanting to to know about repotting. I want to pot in a large grow box or pot. preferably a grow box. I was wanting to know the best time they can take a repot? I also am wanting to know about arieal roots. I have a semi-little root coming off a branch that come's like 3 inches down. How can I get this root to make contact with the soil? Its been cold here for the past few days. Starting to feel like winter. Thanks for all that can help.

Adam,

You will need the humidity to high for that aerial root to continue growth. What I have done in the past is slit a straw (drinking) and "aimed" the aerial roots where I wanted them. Once they anchor into the soil, you can easily remove the straw. To aide in gaining more aerial roots, I have put ficus and scheffs into large clear plastic bags for a couple weeks. Make sure you mist them and keep the soil damp. Check for fungus and bugs as well.

Repot in February as a safe bet. Sap in Ficus should be running by then.

Paul

Oh, and be sure not to have them in direct sun while they are in the bags.....will surely cook them.

Thanks Bart and Paul. I will have to try the plastic bag over the tree for a while. Never allowing it to get any direct sun. Thanks again guys.
