Re veldt fig (Ficus burtt davyi)
I picked up an Fb-d a year ago from Meehan's Miniatures, one that was already well on the way to a nice shohin moyogi. I found absolutely nothing about this species on any bonsai website, so went hunting for information more generally. It appears to be quite adaptable, growing in coastal marshes as well as coastal dunes as well as in the general countryside. Growth habit varies (possibly according to environment) from a small tree to a shrub to a lianescent (think thick vine.)
I'm learning as I go. My tree also covers itself with small figs when happy, and seems to throw aerial roots easily. It seems to need at least half-day sun here.
I found a number of names, too: South african fig, scrambler fig, and veldt fig. The last one is my own favorite.
