Huh? Serissa Help, Im Freaking Out.

Does my serissa's leaves are a little bit brighter because of the heater 5ft. away, or because it is adjusting to my house? I just got it in less than a week ago. Oh, and I fill this tray, holding the pot which contains my little joy with water every other day. Now does the roots suck the water through the drainage hole? If yes, is every other day too much? That is besically all my concerns,

Thank you jC

Be careful of the heater. 5' away is probably OK but make sure the tree isn't baking or getting too hot on the heater side. New leaves are usually darker or lighter than the older ones.

Don't water the way you are doing--you will rot the roots and kill the tree. Water from the top most of the time and make sure the soil is evenly moist. Water until the water runs out of the drain hole. Let it dry out on top and down a little ways in the pot before you water again. Keeping it wet all the time by bottom watering doesn't let in any oxygen and also keeps the roots too wet. Periodically put the whole pot underwater in the sink and let it get saturated...then resume top watering.

Hi Clarissa

I have had a serissa for a short while now, and am no expert at all... Just by chance, I have ended up doing more or less exactly what Earl suggests, so far it has worked...

My main question is that I am not sure what you mean by "a little bit brighter". Do you mean they are turning yellow, or that they are just a brighter green

If they are just a brighter green, then that should be OK, but if you mean yellow then there could be a problem somewhere.

If there is a problem, it could be to do with watering, it could be to do with lighting, or several other things... serissas are notoriously fussy...

Regards,

TB

(PS Earl, hope all's well)

watering

As with any bonsai (or other plants in or around your home), you should water as needed. Following the directions Earl set out will get you the best results. Frequency of watering may vary depending on temp, season, light activity, etc. and the only way to be sure is to check.

Repotting

Hi.

Its clarissa again, how should you repot? I've heard other peoples thoughts on repotting and most of there plants get sick and die. I know it would be too soon to repot so I decided to do that in the spring time maybe. I just don't want my serissa to die, I want it to live as long as it can.

when is it actually a good time to repot a serissa? I have it indoors so it does not feel the winters and summers...

pests

Oh my god! Can vine weevils affect serissa's? I saw a little white worm in the exposed roots and now am scared because I read that in my book. What can I do about it? Or should I wait till the 23rd when I go to my bonsai club to ask? I am scared.

watering properly

Ok, my serissa has been drying out within hours. How do I water this properly? I dont want to over water it, but, when I bought it the is a cloth like materia is covering my draining holes. So I frigured that, that would hold more water in. But this morning I found it bone dry and sprayed the hell out of it. Tell me what to do?
