Narrow leaf Ficus, need help!
I have been noticing the strangest illness and am worried for one of my favorite trees. Many of its leaves get a line accross the tip of the leaf. The end of the leaf then turns yellow, then gray and curls and dies off. Meanwhile, believe it or not, 2/3rds of the leaf looks pretty good and keeps functioning. I do not see any bugs, even with a magnifying glass. I believe conditions are optimal (temp.70-80, humidifier running, bright window as well as hanging fl.lights), but this is progressing and I feel that the tree is struggling now. Why would this perfect line develop and, seemingly, circulation to the end of each leaf has stopped
Please help! So grateful. |

I had something similar happen in a tree that was dried out a touch too long, the tips of each leaf dried up and fell off. Are the new leaves coming out the same way? If it was a watering/fertilizer burn/heat/cold issue that has since been resolved, the new leaves will be ok when they come out. If the new leaves are coming out the same way, its an ongoing issue... Has it been recently repotted? What kind of soil is it in?

How close are those flood lights? If high wattage, it could be burning the leaf tips...just a thought. Do the new leaves (light green) get affected more than the older leaves...as new leaves would be more tender and get burned more easily. Same with a hot window, if it is too close to the window.

Thanks, but it is an ongoing issue and not from the lights. It was potted a year ago, before purchase and is in really good, fast draining soil. I am stumped. The new leaves stay fine for a while, the older leaves are most affected. I have other narrow leaf and other ficus, other tropicals in the same room and this is the only tree doing this!

try this if you like
you could always try stripping the leaves off and then putting a clear bag over the top of it for 2 weeks to encourage new growth and humidity.
