Hello,
I just recieved a juniper as a gift from my girlfirend. Both of us not being educated on junipers didnt realize the specific environment the tree actually needs. I live in an apartment and have no access to and outside garden of anything like that. After reading several posts and threads about junipers being an outdoor plant my question is this; Can the juniper be left inside from spring through fall then be placed outside in a cold box throughout winter so that it can become dormant? Could I sustain it indoors for a few years or so aslong as the environment around it is humid? Hopefully within the next 3 yrs I should have a house and have more flexability to put it outside, but until then I could build a cold box at the GF's house and store it there during the winter. Living in pittsburgh we have pretty harsh winters so even then Ill probally still be moving it around to avoid frost. |

G'day idtjes...
"...Could I sustain it indoors for a few years or so aslong as the environment around it is humid?...". You would really be pushing it...from earlier in this thread, I said "...if you know how to, or you can learn how to, create and maintain the environment required to keep (a juniper) healthy and happy...maybe then, just maybe, you can do it...". You would do well to hook up with a local bonsai club and get some help from somebody with lot's of experience doing bonsai in your geographical area. Remember, idtjes, bonsai is a trip that demands time and patience...welcome aboard and enjoy the trip. Pat
