How long for results?
I've got an indoor ficus that I have just re-potted in an orchid mix. I bought it a week ago and got some advice to put it in a new pot, so I did. Anyway, the new mix seems to drain really, really well. Almost to the point that I can't really tell it was watered after 4-6 hours. I've read some posts that say this is good for ficus. My question is simply, how long does it take to see if what your doing is working? Days, weeks, months?

Long answer, Well, it depends on what you are trying to achieve. Your tree may die in days, in which case you know it DIDNT work... or it may perk up and look healthy in days, in which case you know know its happier. It may take weeks or months to see new foliage or root growth. I know thats obscure, but this is not a 'right NOW' hobby! |

Ditto. The only generic answer I feel comfortable offering is that I tend to notice a positive response to watering or feeding within a day or so no matter the species if the plant is otherwise healthy. The leaves perk or green up, but otherwise it's all over the charts depending on any number of variables.
I had some junipers last season that pushed no and I mean no new growth all season. I couldn't tell whether they were living or dying for nearly a year. Now, they a growing gang busters. I've had other really sick plants suddenly start pushing new growth in a few days after feeding them. There's really no way to answer your question. |

Ok, thanks for the replies. I had just read about a ficus losing all of it's leaves sometimes when it's unhappy or changing environments. I read on another site this usually takes 10-12 days after the change. I also have a juniper outdoors, and I really can't tell what it's doing.
