Greenhouse

Hi there,

In June I'm going to be getting a greenhouse.

Is there anything special I need to buy to ensure that my trees will be okay? Thank you.

Er...in Phoenix...an air conditioner?

Seriously, do get a thermometer (and maybe a fan) and watch the temps carefully.
You really don't want big swings between highs and lows.

Cheers,

The high temp here gets up to 116 on the hottest days. Most of the time in the summer it stays around 100-114 though.

What do you intend with your greenhouse? I would assume winter protection of your trees, right?

In that case, you need a heating system if you plan to overwinter tropicals in it.

I plan on having my trees in there because the place where I have them now has heavy traffic going right by it, and it's a pretty small space, so my supplies are rather cramped, and since I am going to be adding to my collection, my stand will be very crowded, almost to the point where there is NO room at all to fit anything.

Yes, overwintering is another thing. I plan on keeping the plants there in the winter as well. I already have a heating system for greenhouses that a friend of mine has given me.

How does a greenhouse create additional space? Couldn't you leave the plants at the location where the greenhouse is, without a greenhouse?

The temperatures may get mighty hot in the summer without adequate ventilation or cooling in a greenhouse.

if you kep trees in there when the temps outside are thit high you will need a chiller. How about just using a large frame and shade cloth instead?

I agree with GB....

But if do get a "greenhouse" you do need to make sure that you are able to vent it and have fans in it with temp auto controls on them. If it that hot outside it will be an oven in it.....I would also suggest a swamp cooler...fan with water sprain from it.....

Good Luck....

The space where the greenhouse is basically a baron dirt patch. I have a large section of land that my family owns, and the only space that isn't used is where my plants are right now, and where a space for a greenhouse could go.

I was thinking about the frame with the shade cloth, that would probably be the best option.
