Hi Carson,

The answer to your question is yes you can. Chinese elm is deciduous and once out of leaf, will require no light at all, as it is dormant.

All the best,

Aaron

Did you know that Chinese Elm is also evergreen? I have kept two on a cool windowsill that got decent light all the way through winter and it actually even grew, albeit slowly. I think the secret is that the windowsill is a cool one. It has thrived.

Chinese Elm is one of those trees that can be kept indoors during winter and will only partially lose its leaves.
I do this at the store and they come right back in the spring. They just slow down a bit in winter when kept indoors.
