hopefully, some folks have thought ahead, and have begun propagating species like trident maples domestically on a bigger scale. I guess I assumed that seedlings would be grown in the US (this place is based in NY, I noticed), but I could be wrong...I'm sure that prices for this type of material will be going up regardless...

Lucky for me that I try to stick with native species...

Hmm, well thanks any how. If no one has any Tridants I guess thats cool. I have a Red Maple cutting coming along, I heard in Zone 9 it's hard to protect the things from getting cooked in the sun. I heard shade doesn't help.. Any comments to this?

It seems like shade would be the ideal thing to keep a plant from getting cooked in the sun

Regards,

Matt

Nah, I agree, but I heard that donesn't work with thoughs. I heard that a drape of some sort made for this sort of situation works. But I don't know anything about that. I was hopping maybe someone here would..

Here's a thought... i have had great success with this.
Ebay...
Not only are there tons of varieties of maples on sale there, but also seeds! I purchased about 6 Tridents alone from there and have had major success with them.
I will also be propagating about 400 Tridents and about 500 Palmatums and about 100 Chinese Elms in the spring of '04.
I don't know what I'm going to do with all of them, but I believe I'll have enough to go around if anyone wants some. I'll keep a few for my own experiments and growing. the rest will probably end up on ebay to sell.
I'm just suggesting Ebay as a source.. especially for starters!
