SEED EXCHANGE PROGRAM!

Hi all,

Thought it would be nice to start a seed exchange! This would be done by each person paying for the postage of the seeds to be traded unless specified otherwise. Sometimes people will even send seeds if you send SASE. The expected trade is generally 20 seed unless the seeds are large. This is the amount specified on the other seed exchange I have taken part in. Its great to get hard to find seed from people all over the world. It is legal to do in most countries. Also, it is good to protect them with something like a padded mailer or bubble wrap.

Hope we can get some trades going!

Thanks,

Brian

Re: SEED EXCHANGE PROGRAM!

I can probably get most kinds of maples availabile very quickly, my work has some trees outside that have just hundreds of maples seeds ready for the picking, as far s success rates, I have no Idea, and as long as I have the stamp, I will give them to you no charge. When does Biloba leave seeds, or however they grow, we have some of those too.

Re: SEED EXCHANGE PROGRAM!

Hey Kristopher,

I would take any kind of maples. I would also like some of the ginkos if you have those. I will be glad to trade any of mine if you are interested. Just email me.

Thanks,

Brian

Ginkgo seed

Ginkgo has a nut-like fruit that is foul smelling. For this reason, male trees are usually planted. If you are able to collect seeds, you will want to wear some rubber gloves and maybe a nose-pin when you harvest them. Letting the fruit soften a bit will make this easier.

Here is an interesting link that says it takes 25-75 years for the plant to mature to the fruiting stage. I assume this is from a seedling:

And a nice picture of the fruit, so you'll know what to look for:

This is ripe fruit

And of course, the "Ginkgo Pages"

Re: SEED EXCHANGE PROGRAM!

I will see what I can scrap together, also I have found this mystery tree (its actually a bush), and it has tons of these seeds I will be willing to sned to people, I just don't know how they would grow, they have no leaves so i cannot tell you what the tree looks like other then it truly is a minurature tree, the shrub itslef is about 3 feet tall, and some already look like a semi broom syled bonsai.
