Maples To Sell Or Trade
i have about 150 maple *very* healthy maple seedlings, if anyone wants them. i have absolutely no experience shipping these, but i will surely try. unless someone is in southeastern pennsylvania and wants to come pick them up! i am about an hour outside philadelphia. i was thinking around $1 over shipping for them? or trade? here they are (sorry about the weeds in the background):

Have you thought about making some forests? You could put 15 or so in one of those reddish containers you have on the left after you make some hot pipe holes in the bottom and line the side holes with some drainage screen. Grow them on for 3 years and repot the group.
The trees will each grow much more quickly in a wide container like that, even together. Regards, Matt

Phem, your picture reminds me of my deck. It's so much fun to raise a whole bunch of seedlings, but the problem then emerges of what to do with them all. I, also have a bunch of Maples, Amur in my case, and they are SO PRETTY. I also have others, including Sugarberries (Southern Hackberries) and Hop Hornbeams from a year or two ago and Persimmons, Privet and Burning Bush from this year. You won't belive this, but I'm planning on GIVING a number of them to Bob, who opened NW Arkansas Bonsai near us recently. I would be happy to give seedlings away to anybody with a sincere interest in developing them. Bob is interested in getting them and I'd like to see him be successful.
Lots of the folks who are bonsai veterans laugh at us newbies with our seedlings, but I've been very gratified at the progress many of mine have made in only two years. Two years is not enough to turn them into credible pre-bonsai specimens, but after three, several of mine are clearly within 2 or 3 years of being so. If seedlings are included with the rest of what a person is doing, I think they are very interesting and worthwhile. Best regards, Fred |

you are right, seedlings are soo much fun to watch. i would be willing to give them away to anyone willing to come and pick them up, i have no idea what i am going to do with all 150 of them!! it is just too much for me!
matt, the red container on the left is actually a soda crate....i just packed as many as i could in there for easy carrying. i actually have about another 25 still planted together in a large tub where the rest of them started. when i started these i did not expect this many to take, in previous years i got about 50%, this year has been about 90%, i'm guessing due to the heavy rains this year. so.....anyone want any?

If you still have those maple seedlings I would like to know exactly what kind of maples they are.
I live in south mississippi and i know some one that is looking for seedlings. I also need to know how many you are willing to sell if you still have them. You can e-mail me at jackiehoda@aol.com |

Please use the PM system to respond to Classifieds, particularly REALLY OLD classifieds. This will reduce the general "noise level" of the forums.
PS. You probably don't want to post your email address publicly on this forum, or any other one, unless you are in the market for viagra, debt consolidation, or unique investment opportunities. Thanks Matt

Actually, I do still have quite a few of these. I'm not sure what specific type they are, they grow pretty much wild around here (south east pennsylvania). I'm not sure how many are going to make it through the winter, so no guarantees. You pay for shipping and I'll do it. I think I have about 40 of them left. How many would you like?
