Where do you mail-order from?

I'm just curious where you all mail-order, or Web-order from when you order from outside the US. I dont have too many places to choose from in Ottawa, and nee dto find other sources for bonsai material.
I am talkiing about ordering from bonsai nurseries, not garden shops. I have losts of those around.

So, where do you order from? (would help if you already knew if they would ship to canada or the US)
thanks,
Groan

Hi.... let me give you a thought. I totally recommend the International Arboretum of William (Bill) Valavanis. P.O. Box 23894
Rochester, NY 14692-3894 Tel: (585 334-2595).

Of what I can tell you are about 250-275 miles from him. I am about 300. Each year I have ordered bare root imports. I pay for them in Nov/Dec (I think) and they arrive in April. He will mail them, not sure about shipping to Canada, but I pick them up. You should check with your authorities about importing from the US. If you can you should think about either A) the bare root imports or B)a trip to his facility to purchase established trees. I can not say enough good things about Bill. He is an extremely well respected Artist and a really nice guy!!
http://www.internationalbonsai.com/arboretum/ARB.html this is a page of his web site. there will be a sale on Sept 8 at his place... no mail order. It is in conjuntion with INTERNATIONAL BONSAI 2002 SYMPOSIUM DECIDUOUS BONSAI II . If you can make it you will not be disappointed!

Thanks again Jay,

I am investigating the permit situation as we speak. not easy. I hit a dead end when i got a vacation message from teh person i need to speak to. GRRR

Your site there has lots of great prices! much better than this one in canada...
http://www.shikoku.ca/Bonsai.htm

Mind you , these are all established bonsai, and are reputed to be quite old.

I've been looking for more canadian sites, but not too many exist.

Do any of your gallery images include plants you ordered from International?

If anyone has Canadian info, I would apreciate it, or am i the only Canadian here?
ehhe

Groan, I will post to my gallery some bare root trees I have purchased from Bill when I can. I am at a remote site at the moment. Hopefully I will get a chance to post them before I go on Vaca. I have purchased two Hornbeams (one this year one last) and a Styrax this year.... A Cork barked C. Elm last year. My logo pix, a Kiyo Hime Maple was a potted purchase this year and reasonable. I have also picked up several young trees in plastic pots... they ranged in price from $8.00 to $15.00.

Back to you... hopefully tomorrow

Jay, thanks again again.

It's too bad the site dosnt show any images of his bare root seedlings. I'd like to see the size of them before i buy.

Thanks and i look forward to seeing your pix.
