Exclamation Want quality new trees!

I live in Pennsylvania, in the US and there arent any bonsai nurseries, or even good regular nurseries in my area. And i was reading posts on here and people are showing off new trees that they bought for cheap somewhere in the UK or Amsterdam or the like. And i was wondering are there any Stores Over seas that will ship to the US? Maybe that do online ordering. Because the online sites here sell crap, and over priced crap at that.I would appreciate any help you may provide.

Jim does have some good stuff but he is in Harrisburg so it is quite a drive from Pittsburg. Have you tried Dale Cochoy at Wild Things Bonsai, I think he's based in Akron/Dayton OH area.

You probably don't want to import stuff yourself as it will be very expensive due to import restrictions etc.

Cheers

If importing you have to have a Phytosanitary certificate, i think it costs around $20 and most companies wont do it anyway. have you got anywhere you can collect locally?

Man, how spoiled are we getting in this country? How far is it to New England Bonsai for you? And if you have to drive a couple of hours, why is that such a problem? I fly to california three times a year to get proper bonsai schooling, and my wife hates it that I buy a tree there now and then (good material is expensive). I would feel lucky to be able to drive less than a day to get to a bonsai nursery. As it is, I am 8 hours from Brussel's, who, by the way, also sells some better stuff. You just have to know what you are looking at.

Chase Rosade's place in near Philly. www.rosadebonsai.com It's worth the drive. Chase has world class stuff, as well as very nice starter material and alot of other bonsai things, pots, tools, books, etc.

Jim Doyle is great also. he has terrific collected trees sometimes.

These places are well within driving distance. I drive to Rosade's every spring. It's four hour trip one way. Doyle's place is farther. It's also worth the trip.

Importing bonsai from anywhere overseas is very problematic. The import restrictions on bonsai plants has tightened consideralby in the last couple of years because of Asian long horned beetle and some fungal infections that have been traced to imported bonsai stock.

For what it's worth, the U.S. has much better collected stock trees for alot less money than Europe and Japan. The Europeans and Japanese drool over our collected junipers and other species. A nice collected juniper that might sell here for $500 would go for thousands in Europe.

If you get Rosade's also try checking out Allshape. They are about 20 minutes from Rosade in New Jersey and have a lot of pre-bonsai stock. http://www.allshapesbonsai.com/

From "mail order" try evergreen gardenworks. http://www.evergreengardenworks.com/
Brent is very knowledgable and sells very nice pre-bonsai stock.

There are a few more places that ship and many more within a days drive of Pittsbugh.
