San Francisco Bonsai
What are some of the best places in SF California (or the North Bay for that matter) to purchase bonsai supplies and established trees? I am also interested in visiting a few nurseries this weekend, and was wondering which ones have some good bonsai starters, or trainers. Thanks!

Re: San Francisco Bonsai
Hi there John.
Club sales and auctions are the best place to get trees. Most clubs hold sales in conjunction with their shows, so you'll probably want to browse the events listing on the www.bonsaitalk.com homepage. There are a lot of clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Check www.gsbf-bonsai.org and for some club listings, and also see their Bonsai Shopper for area nurseries. Here is a partial listing of Northern California Spots:
17230 Roscoe Blvd Northridge CA 91325 2550 Camino Tassajara Danville CA 94506 4125 Harrison Grade Rd Sebastopol, CA 95472 707-874-2233 18110 S. Western Ave. Gardena CA 90248 USA 13170 Glenoaks Blvd Sylmar CA USA 419 Pajaro Lane Nippomo CA 93444 13631 Beach Blvd Westminster CA 92683 6450 Lone Pine Rd Sebastopol, CA 95472 707-823-5024 632 S.San Gabriel Blvd San Gabriel CA (never been there) 1905 Sawtelle Blvd West Los Angeles CA 90025 Regards, Matt

Re: San Francisco Bonsai
Sloat gardens (on Sloat in the sunset) has tools and some stock. There are two nurseries in Sebastopol that specialize in bonsai stock and pre bonsai, http://www.miniplantkingdom.com/ and Lone Pine Gardens. I've wanted to pay a visit but have not yet gotten around to it.

John,
If you are anywhere near Santa Cruz this Sunday, Oct. 13th, my club, the Santa Cruz Bonsai Kai is having a show and sale of bonsai and pre=bonsai material.....at very reasonable prices. The show is at the Portuguese Hall. You can look at the Bonsaitalk events calendar for details. The show is from 10AM -4:30Pm. It's a pretty good show and sale. Hope you can make it. Incidentally, Sta.Cruz is about 80 miles south of San Francisco on the Coast. Robert |

Robert-
Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I read it today, and missed the event. I hope it went well, and I'll have to catch it next time. I visited Yabusaki's today, and purchased a Shimpaku starter that thought he knew me. It was the least I could do... I'll post some pics to get some suggestions on where to take it when the growing season comes around. Take care everyone. |
