Never been to a bonsai store

Anyone ever been to Bonsai by the Monastery in Conyers,GA? I've been to their website http://www.bonsaimonk.com/ but they don't sell any trees from their website. Have you heard much about this place? I've never been to a bonsai store, I could probably count the number of bonsai trees I've seen in person, including my own, on one hand.(I have a ficus that's about 5 years old and in a bonsai pot, and about 15 starter size trees). I'll try to take a few pictures to post when I get back.

Thanks,
weirdowl

WierdOwl,

Boy are you in for a treat!

Bonsai by the Monastery is amazing. I've been there a half-dozen times - and even the time it was 102 out, I spent hours browsing through their wonderful collections of trees. More trees than you'll have any idea what to do with or how to look at. Show-ready trees, starter seedlings, and everything in between.

And trees aren't really even their forte, in my opinion. Their trees are good - really good - maybe even great - but their pots are what really impressed me. Be sure you look around in a lot of detail - not only are there all the pots upstairs and out in the main showrooms, but there's also a basement full of treasures. Not to mention that fact that the basement is a pleasent 15 degrees coolor this time of year.

Let us know what you think!
Old Mister

I have seen their wares at bonsai conventions and they look like nice pots. If I remember correctly they were importing pots and had nice tokoname stuff and some more affordable ones.

I always get a kick out of this photo on the http://www.bonsaimonk.com website, which shows Br. Michael at the cash register. Something about the monk robe and the American Express/Mastercard/Discover decals leave me a little unsettled every time I see it.

Thanks, OldMister, I'm excited to get there. You can't really tell much at all about their trees on their website. I was hoping they'd have some starter trees.
That's the same thing I thought when I saw that picture Matt. He's actually wearing a business suit under that robe. I wonder if they keep a baseball bat behind the counter. That'd be pretty funny.

Although I've never been there I've puchased pots by mail order from them. Well packed and arrived in good condition. Alot of styrofoam peanuts though. I like those paking peanuts that are made of starch the best. Add water to them and throw them on the compost pile.

It's a "Must Do" if you're in the Atlanta area

Hi folks,

Bonsai by the Monastery is a place you simply must see if you're in the Atlanta area. I lived there for a short time and made a few trips to Conyers. It's the best collection of pots for sale that I've ever seen.

Since moving to California, I recently purchased a dozen mame pots from their website. They were very friendly and made sure that I got as many pots as possible for my shipping dollar. And they were great about meeting my color specifications.

I can't praise them enough!

Hello,
My visit to Conyer's was great. The staff on hand was friendly, helpful, and easy to talk to. OMC- I can't believe the number of pots, and what reasonable prices. I bought a chinese pot that was approx. 1.5"x7.5"x5" for 6$. That seemed pretty cheap to me.
Here are the pics. I've hesitated to post them because I was originally wanting to get pictures of the premises plus trees and do kind of a review of my visit, but I couldn't really get many good pictures like that. The layout of the place makes pictures like that kind of difficult. So, here are a few of the trees they had. I somehow managed to leave without getting a good picture of my favorite tree. It's a white pine styled by Yoshimura. It's in the background of the hornbeam pic.
