Hollow Creek Bonsai\Stone Lantern

I find others experiences with vendors\dealers\suppliers helpful, so I thought I'd post mine.

I recently bought a pair of Genji brand knob cutters from Hollow Creek. I won't be
quick to do business with them. Some of my experience lands squarely on my shoulders, but I didn't care for the following in my dealing with them: I contacted them before and after the purchase and they seemed curt, as if they were bothered by my contacting them (although it is dificult to say with e-mail what a persons tone really is) the pictures of the tools on their site are all the same for each tool. Every black set of knob cutters look identical, so you don't see what you are getting. Even the enlargements don't help. I thought I was getting a pair with a smaller head, which is what I wanted. It turned out they are a duplicate of my Fujiyama pair I already have. And their shipping rates are ridiculous. Fifteen dollars for one tool. Both Evergreen Gardenworks and Stone Lantern are a flat rate of seven dollars.

Not my best experience.

Stone Lantern on the other hand was a very positive experience. Their tool images were helpful, they were very friendly and positive when responding to
my questions. The shipping rates (as mentioned) were very reasonable. I'd do business with them again without reservation.

Thanks for the input Nigel. Good to hear about good and bad experiences. I have done business with Stone Lantern as well as Bonsai Monk and Dallas Bonsai Gardens for tools. Never considered Hollow Creek as I don't really care for the web site layout - plants, tools and other stuff.

I contacted Hollow Creek via email regarding a pot that was out of stock and they promptly replied a thorough answer. A couple of weeks later an unsolicited email was sent by them updating the situation. I will probably buy the pot from them in the spring, as I would rank that single experience as positive.

I have purchased suiban and kenzan multiple times from Hollow Creek for ikibana. I never had a problem with delivery or price. I have never had to mediate a problem with them, but their up-front service has been acceptable.

Stone Lantern, Bonsai Monk and New England Bonsai have all been great to deal with also. I am not a fan of Dallas Bonsai Garden, but my beef is over minor things only.
