I have not bought anything other than pots and soil from Hollow Creek, but I have been pretty satisfied. As far as shipping goes, I don't really know. I live pretty close to Hollow Creek so I just go and get what I need.

I have tried a number of their soils and am very pleased with two of them. The others I can't say the same about.

I don't like their tropical mix . . . it does retain water well for longer than usual, but once it dries it is challenging to re-wet. Not what I am looking for. It also isn't the most aesthetically pleasing soil either.

The other I don't like is their triple screened professional mix. It isn't a uniform mix and there are some pretty large pieces. Not really what I am looking for either.

Now, the two I do like are the master's shohin mix. This stuff is awesome for mame and shohin bonsai. Its uniform in size, looks great, and retains water well, but still dries out quickly. I really like this stuff for my smaller bonsai.

For my main soil i have been using their (fortunately) cheapest soil. Their plain old double screened soil is really great stuff in my opinion. Yeah, its expensive, but I only have a few tree's so its not a big deal yet.

007,
I've been using the triple screened[green label] for years and found the aggregate size is better and the mix cleaner. I got 24 bags once and only one bag was like the double screened...too dusty with larger aggregate sizes.
The shohin I use as a top layer mostly.

I'm still relatively new to bonsai. I've been using Fred's triple screened soil
pretty much exclusively. Have bought many pots and supplies from him, and a
couple of trees. He is "local" to me, and a member of my bonsai club, so it's
pretty easy for me to drop in and purchase what I need. Never been
disappointed in anything I've gotten from him.

I've heard from a number of people that the triple screened is the way to go, after two orders of it, I've decided to stick with the double screened for now. I am having good success with this soil and hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it . . . plus its their cheapest soil. Since I have to get it shipped, price is obvioulsy a greater factor than for those who are local.

They also have a number of truly nice bonsai and potensai trees for sale. Proces are very competitive for the well developed raw material. Tje material they had in DC was first class (and some of it was quite good at getting my wallet to jump out of my pocket....) John
