Hi,
I'm a n00b to the forum as you can see. I stumbled across bonsaiTALK while surfing the web in search of local bonsai nurseries. So far, I've visited (earlier today) Yamaguchi Bonsai Nursery in Santa Monica and have called a couple other locations in search for a Fukien Tea tree...some didn't even know what a Fukien Tea was or never heard of it . From an hour or so of searching the forums, I've decided to check out Kimura Bonsai in Northridge, Chikugo-En in Gardena, and possibly Fuji Bonsai in Sylmar (thanks to bonsaial1 for the write-up). Now my question is, does anyone know where I might be able to find one locally? I know they're available online, but I would like to actually see the tree before I buy it. Oh, as for the size, I'm just looking for one that's small to medium in size, no taller than 12". |

Don't forget House of Bonsai, about 20 minutes from Anaheim.
Good luck on the Fukien, though, I don't recall seeing them either at House of Bonsai or Chikugo-En. But House of Bonsai had a pretty large greenhouse area that had a lot of very unusual trees. Joanie |

Thanks for the recco' Joanie, I'll be sure to check out House of Bonsai next time I'm in the Anaheim area. I had a chance to visit Chikugo-En and Marumiya today. Chikugo-En had the most variety and number of plants to choose from...I think I spent at least an hour just walking through the maze of trees. Gary and his grandmother were a pleasure to talk to...very informative and just all around good people. I was informed by Gary that there was a ban on importing Bonsai trees from China and that it would take a 2 year probation period to get a specimen inspected before allowing it to be imported into the states...so there goes my chances in finding a Fukien Tea locally.
Marumiya had the least amount of trees out of the three nurseries I've visited, but they did have the best price for pots due to a 30% off sale from which I benefitted. ![]() |

You may want to try the San Gabriel Nursery off on San Gabriel Blvd. They have a large bonsai section there.
